On the hype
Reported (GameSpot, from BBC Radio 1):
"Yeah, we are aware of the hype of the game, of course, and the fact that people have been waiting for such a long time... we see this colossus approaching, and at the same time we see it a bit from the outside."
Augé said that distance was "a good way for us also not to let these thoughts come into our minds." The interview video is on YouTube.
On the sound
Reported (GameSpot):
- "We never really put words on it. 'Oh, we need to make an '80s track.'"
- "It happened to have this kind of flavor. But at the same time, the sounds are futuristic."
- "Like the guitar, it's not even a guitar; it's a synth... very phasey and a bit futuristic."
Analysis: so don't expect a straight Vice City (2002) pastiche. Justice describe a subtle '80s feel run through modern synths. The launch trailer is the best sample so far.
On the collaborators
Reported: Xavier de Rosnay said of Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard: "These are people we've always wanted to work with... all of a sudden we had made a record with all of them" (GameSpot).
Reported: GameSpot said "Flower in a Hurricane" had 2.8 million YouTube plays in under a week. Its streaming debut is in our Spotify debut guide.
