Current status

  • Current status: Phone details come from Rockstar interviews with IGN (published in full October 7) and Dazed (August), plus the Extended Look.
  • Last verified: October 22, 2026.
  • Sources checked: GTAVice.net and VICE summaries of IGN's interview, Dexerto's summary of Dazed, Dazed's feature.
  • What is confirmed: the quotes below come from Rockstar's Rob Nelson. Details shown in July builds can change by launch.
  • What is not confirmed yet: a photo mode, a selfie camera, phone cheats, and the full list of apps.

Snapmatic: follow and browse, but no posting

Reported (IGN interview, via GTAVice.net):

"We have Snapmatic. You have people that you follow and you can also just browse it."

Asked if you can post: "No, because you're a couple on the run. You just lurk."

Reported (VICE summary): Jason and Lucia avoid posting "to keep their digital footprint down."

Analysis: that's a story-driven limit, not a technical one. It also fits the police system, which tracks your appearance. See our wanted system guide.

What the phone does

FeatureWhat's been saidStatus
Physical phoneCamera moves closer to the phone in your character's hand, no overlayReported (IGN, via VICE)
Texts and callsJason and Lucia text and call each other, for example a goodnight messageReported (IGN)
Relationship effectIgnoring messages "may impact your relationship a bit"Reported, Nelson quote
Vehicle scannerShows locks, alarms, trackers, tools needed and fence valueReported (IGN)
Social feedsWorking feeds with viral stories such as Real DimezReported (Dazed, via Dexerto)
Ride-shareAn app IGN calls Ryde Me works as fast travelReported; see fast travel guide

Reported (Dexerto, citing Dazed): in one example Rockstar described, Lucia uses the phone from the passenger seat while Jason drives. For relationship texts, see our hanging out guide.

The car-theft scanner

Reported (IGN interview, via GTAVice.net): the phone's vehicle scanner shows whether a car is locked, has an alarm or tracker, what equipment you need to steal it, how much a fence will pay, and how much it costs to register it for personal use.

That ties into GTA 6's tiered car theft, covered in our stealing cars guide.

What we still don't know

Not confirmed:

  • Photo mode or a camera for your own shots. Rockstar hasn't described one.
  • Cheat codes by phone, as in GTA 5. Nothing has been shown or said.
  • Internet browser with fake websites, a GTA staple. Not described yet.
  • Apps list. Only Snapmatic, messaging, the scanner and the ride-share app have been described.

Analysis: these are the most-asked phone questions, so expect quick answers after launch.

The bottom line

GTA 6's phone is a tool and a window, not a megaphone. You'll scan cars, message your partner and scroll Snapmatic, but you won't be posting. Details came from a July build and could change.
