Current status

  • Current status: Published. The full feature is free to read on GamesRadar+, and the November 2026 issue is on sale from October 29 (Edge).
  • Last verified: October 29, 2026.
  • What is confirmed: everything below comes from Rockstar developers speaking on record to Edge, or from what Edge saw in the demo (Edge).
  • What is not confirmed yet: Rockstar hasn't put out its own Newswire post repeating these details. GTA 6 still launches November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

How the demo worked

Confirmed (Edge): in past previews, a publicist read from a script. This time Nelson "has no script and, apparently, no plan". He started in Jason and Lucia's apartment, drank a "stamina-boosting cup of coffee" and a "health-buffing protein shake", then went outside (Edge).

Confirmed (Edge): about 900 people work at Rockstar North. The building used to house The Scotsman newspaper, and a lobby mural reads "PARANOIA IS GOOD".

The biggest reveals

Confirmed (Edge, Rockstar on record):

  • Map: "roughly twice the size of GTAV's", and nearly as big as GTA 4, GTA 5 and RDR2 combined. See the map comparison.
  • Interiors: "an order of magnitude more interiors" than past games, says Aaron Garbut.
  • NPCs: a Los Angeles-based team and about 600,000 animations (details).
  • Transit: "fully functioning bus and train systems" (details).
  • Police: a heat system based on the police report, plus stinger strips and K9 dogs (details).
  • Time: a much longer day-night cycle (details).
  • Apps: Scooter Bros delivers your car, and WAINK lists cars wanted by fences.

Story and roleplay

Confirmed (Edge): the Criminal Profile runs from "Professional" to "Irredeemable". Jason and Lucia's closeness sits on a four-point scale. Nelson "refuses to confirm or deny" whether they can marry. And "quitting crime is... a fundamental theme of the authored storyline" (Edge). More in can Jason and Lucia get married.

Confirmed (Edge): some story missions have "natural gating". You may need to raise cash with a holdup or a car for a fence before the next job (Insider Gaming).

The bottom line

Analysis: this is the most detailed look at GTA 6's systems so far. The tone is confident. Nelson: "It's ready... It ceases to become ours, and it becomes everybody's." Garbut: "I feel like we've built a pyramid on Everest." Phil Hooker is more careful: "I can't guess the public reaction" (Edge). Our earlier October 29 reveal preview covered the run-up.
