Current status

  • Current status: Seen in Rockstar's own demo for Edge 430 (Edge).
  • Last verified: October 29, 2026.
  • What is confirmed: stinger strips, K9 units, and the heat/police-report icons.
  • What is not confirmed yet: at what wanted level dogs and stingers show up, and whether you can fight off or evade a dog.

The chase Edge saw

Confirmed (Edge): after "a botched robbery", Nelson fled on a stolen motorbike with Lucia on the back. You can switch between them, letting one drive (AI) while the other shoots. Police "radio to one another and lay a stinger strip". The couple are "hurled over the handlebars", then a K9 Alsatian pins Jason "as everyone in Nelson's office... urges him not to shoot it" (Edge).

Analysis: the passenger switch extends character switching into mid-chase action.

How heat works

Confirmed (Edge): the heat system tracks "your physical description, whether you were working alone or with a partner, what you were wearing, whether CCTV captured you, what weapon you were carrying". Icons at the top of the screen effectively show "the contents of the police report you are trying to outrun" (Edge).

To lower it, per Edge:

  • Split up if witnesses saw two people.
  • Change clothes.
  • Drop the weapon.

"Escape is no longer merely a matter of waiting for stars to evaporate." Full star rules: wanted system.

Other ways a crime can go wrong

Confirmed (Edge): some carjacking victims "are armed and prepared to fight back". Newer cars "may contain a tracker", and owners may report thefts. Not every slip triggers a chase: you can drop the weapon, and "the game allows a degree of latitude before behaviour crosses the threshold into a wanted level" (Edge). See stealing cars and criminal profile.

The bottom line

Analysis: police in GTA 6 act on what they know, and they have new tools. Watch the road at night, and get off foot fast if you hear dogs.
