GTA 6 cover art layout in Vice City pinks and purples, like the giant banner on a Paris tower.

Current status

  • Current status: The Paris banner is up. Gun-free versions of the art have been reported in at least three U.S. locations, while the painted murals keep the weapons.
  • Last verified: October 19, 2026.
  • Sources checked: Kotaku, Journal du Geek, GTAVIFrance, Creative Bloq, Metro, Vice Central.
  • What is confirmed: where the banner is, the dates it went up, and that two weapons are missing compared with the official cover art.
  • What is not confirmed yet: the reason for the edit, the cost, and who ordered it (Rockstar has not posted about it).

Where the banner is and when it went up

Reported, with photos. Journal du Geek says rope-access workers began unrolling the artwork on one of the Mercuriales towers, the Ponant tower, on October 6. They worked strip by strip for more than a week. The finished piece reproduces the official cover art, with a large "19" for the November 19 launch.

  • Location: Les Mercuriales, Porte de Bagnolet, facing the périphérique and the A3 motorway in eastern Paris.
  • Permit: GTAVIFrance, citing Journal du Geek, says Bagnolet town hall confirmed it granted the permit under local advertising rules (Reported).
  • More panels: a second set of Jason and Lucia visuals was going up on the tower's sides by October 14 (Reported, Rockstar Mag via Creative Bloq).
  • Reach: Journal du Geek estimates hundreds of thousands of drivers will see it every day. That is the outlet's own estimate. Rockstar has given no figures.

What was removed from the art

Confirmed by side-by-side comparison (Kotaku):

Creative Bloq's design critique notes the edit leaves poses that "no longer quite make sense", like an arm pointing at nothing. Vice Central says the banner also carries the Rockstar logo and a PEGI 18 badge.

It isn't only Paris, but it isn't everywhere

Reports conflict a little, so here's what each outlet says:

Creative Bloq first called it a Paris-only tweak. Metro later reported the same edit in U.S. locations: "Before you write it off as a French quirk..." Vice Central describes the Chicago double-decker bus wraps, first photographed on r/GTA6.

A word of caution on Times Square: older Times Square footage from 2025 was a YouTube ad, not a Rockstar billboard. Check the date before you share a clip. The murals are covered in our murals guide.

Why remove the guns? What we can and can't say

Analysis, not confirmed. Kotaku offers two possibilities without choosing between them, and Vice Central adds context:

  1. The building owner or the local ad rules. Bagnolet granted the Paris permit (Reported), but nobody has published its conditions. Vice Central notes that France's ad self-regulator, the ARPP, asks advertisers not to trivialise violence. It also says no specific rule has been shown to require the edit.
  2. A deliberate outdoor version of the art. Metro's U.S. sightings suggest an edited version for printed and digital public ads. The hand-painted murals keep the weapons, though, so it isn't a blanket rule.

What this is not evidence of: any change to the game. The game is rated ESRB M and PEGI 18, and the official cover art still has the weapons.

The bottom line

The Paris tower may be GTA 6's biggest single physical ad so far, as Journal du Geek suggests. It uses a gun-free version of the cover art that Metro also reports on U.S. billboards, while the hand-painted murals keep the guns. The reason hasn't been given. Don't read it as a sign that the game has changed. The rest of the launch-month campaign is in our final-month calendar and the Miami ad deals tracker.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the GTA 6 ad in Paris?
On one of the Les Mercuriales towers at Porte de Bagnolet, next to the Paris ring road (périphérique) and the A3 motorway.
Why are the guns missing from the GTA 6 Paris banner?
No one has said. Lucia's pistol and an assault rifle were edited out of the cover art. Local ad rules or a deliberate outdoor-safe version are the likely explanations, but neither is confirmed.
Is the gun-free art only in France?
No. Metro reports the same edited artwork in Times Square, on a Chicago bus and at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. The hand-painted murals in Brooklyn and Hollywood reportedly keep the guns.
Does this mean GTA 6 is censored?
No. The edit only affects the ad art. The game keeps its ESRB M and PEGI 18 ratings, and the official cover art still shows the weapons.

Keep exploring GTA 6
