Current status

  • Current status: On-record "hundreds of interiors" claim from Rockstar leads, via Bloomberg.
  • Last verified: October 19, 2026.
  • Sources checked: GamingBolt, mp1st, Notebookcheck, Bloomberg's making-of feature.
  • What is confirmed (as reported): many small enterable interiors and hand-placed detail inside them.
  • What is not confirmed yet: an exact number, a list, and which interiors are story-only or locked.

What Rockstar said

Reported. GamingBolt says head of publishing Jennifer Kolbe, Aaron Garbut, Phil Hooker and Rob Nelson spoke to Bloomberg's Schreier about interiors:

  • "There are so many of these little interiors, hundreds of them, that you can go and explore."
  • Garbut on the detail: "Who's sitting where, what they're drinking, the marks that are left on the table."
  • The example given was getting into a gas station without being detected and leaving with cash without alerting anyone.

mp1st and Notebookcheck report the same. No list of interiors has been published. The only example given was the gas station.

Why 'hundreds' matters for a GTA

Analysis. GTA 5's Los Santos was famous for facades. Most buildings were shells, apart from shops, safehouses and mission spaces. Hundreds of small explorable spaces would change how you play the open world:

  • Robberies: more places to case, sneak into and hit. That ties into the Criminal Profile and wanted system.
  • Emergent chaos: more doors means more places where ambient NPC systems can collide. See NPC chaos.
  • Density over size: the map is reportedly about three times RDR2's playable area (GamingBolt). Interiors add depth rather than more square miles.

The 'more RDR2 than GTA 5' story line

Reported (Schreier's assessment, via GamingBolt). Schreier says the story seems "more inspired by Red Dead Redemption 2 than Grand Theft Auto 5": "This is a story about two people who actually enjoy spending time together." He contrasts it with GTA 5's opening, whose "sour nihilism" got "tiring fast." That's a journalist's impression after a studio visit, not a Rockstar statement. How the duo's open-world time works is in our hang-out guide.

Confirmed vs rumored: GTA 6 interiors

The bottom line

"Hundreds of little interiors" is Rockstar's own framing. It points to a denser, more lived-in Leonida than GTA 5's facades, but don't expect every door to open. Confirmed activities are in our gameplay features list.

Frequently asked questions

How many interiors are in GTA 6?
Rockstar leads told Bloomberg there are 'hundreds' of small interiors to explore. No exact number has been published.
Can you enter every building in GTA 6?
No one has said that. The official claim is hundreds of small explorable interiors, not every building.
Is GTA 6's story more like RDR2?
Bloomberg's Jason Schreier says it feels more inspired by RDR2 than GTA 5, because the leads actually enjoy each other's company. That's his impression, not a Rockstar statement.
