Current status

  • Current status: Banner reported finished on October 22, 2026, after three days of installation.
  • Last verified: October 22, 2026.
  • Sources checked: Miami Today, Hoodline, Fortune, Miami GTA Tours, thegta6news, posts on X by Joel Franco, @samchrme and @gtasix_.
  • What is confirmed: the City of Miami created a temporary banner exception for GTA VI promotion.
  • What is not confirmed yet: this banner's permit, size, fee and end date, and whether more downtown banners will follow.

Where the banner is

Reported (thegta6news, from Joel Franco's photos):

  • Building: the one with the Hotel YVE Miami sign on its roof, 146 Biscayne Boulevard.
  • View it from: Bayside Marketplace, directly across the road.
  • Timeline: first photographed going up on October 19. On October 20 a local, @samchrme, said installers told him it would be done by Wednesday, October 21. On October 22, @gtasix_ posted it as complete.

Analysis: it's a few blocks south of the Kaseya Center's Welcome to Vice City sign, so you can see both on one walk along Biscayne Boulevard.

The city rule that allows it

Reported (Miami Today, September 15): Miami commissioners approved the plan on first reading on September 10. Under it:

RuleDetail
WindowNo earlier than Oct 15, no later than Dec 31, max 56 days in a row
AreaBounded by NE 5th Street, the Miami River, Biscayne Bay and NE 2nd Avenue
SizeUp to 10,000 sq ft
Fee$208,000 per banner over 5,000 sq ft
Money goes toThe Rev. Edward T. Graham Greenway ("Underdeck") park
Other approvalsEach building's homeowners association

Reported (Fortune, October 19): the City of Miami approved temporary banners worth up to $1.2 million. Miami GTA Tours, a fan site, identifies the final law as Ordinance 14490. Early coverage, such as Hoodline, quoted $202,000 per banner before the final $208,000 figure.

Why the city asked to drop 'Vice City'

Reported (Miami Today): at the September 10 meeting, Commissioner Christine King thanked "the operator" for "taking 'Vice City' away from the City of Miami." Mayor Eileen Higgins said, "We don't like being referred to as 'Vice City'." Sponsor Damian Pardo said the approved materials have no "revving cars" and no guns.

Analysis: that lines up with what's gone up so far: key art of Jason and Lucia and the game logo, not crime imagery. It also echoes the Paris tower ad that removed its guns.
