A Gym Made a GTA 6 Thumb Workout: The Exercises, and Whether You Need It

Current status
- Current status: PureGym's routine was published October 21, 2026, four weeks before launch.
- Last verified: October 22, 2026.
- Sources checked: Dexerto.
- What is confirmed: GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026.
- What is not confirmed yet: any link to Rockstar. This is PureGym's own promotion, not an official GTA 6 partnership.
The three hand exercises
Reported (Dexerto, describing PureGym's routine):
| Exercise | How | Reps |
|---|---|---|
| Thumb-to-fingertip | Touch your thumb to each fingertip in turn | 10 |
| Fist curls | Curl your fingers into a fist, then open | 10 |
| Fingertip push-ups | Press the fingertips of both hands against the floor | 10 |
Hope recommends doing the routine before you pick up the controller and again after a session.
The living-room routine
Reported (Dexerto): for longer sessions, Hope also put together a separate routine of jumping jacks, arm circles and leg swings in 30-second intervals.
His reasoning, as quoted by Dexerto: "We warm up before a run or a gym session, so why not before a long gaming session? Your thumbs and hands are doing the heavy lifting, and the rest of your body is barely moving."
He added that "a quick reset every hour or so, can make a big difference to how you feel the next day."
Sensible habits for launch week
Analysis (general advice, not medical guidance):
- Take breaks. An hourly stand-up and stretch is easy to build in.
- Check your controller setup. If a control layout is uncomfortable, both consoles offer system-level button remapping. See our DualSense controllers guide.
- Sleep. GTA 6 will still be there tomorrow, and Rockstar's story is long.
- If you have pain that doesn't go away, stop and see a professional. A gym's promo isn't a substitute.
Why brands are piling in
Analysis: PureGym is one of many non-gaming brands using GTA 6's launch for attention, alongside broadband firms, as covered in our download time guide, and the widely shared "sick day" estimate covered in our productivity claim fact-check. Dexerto frames the workout around that predicted wave of launch-day "sickness".

The bottom line
It's a fun promo with a reasonable message: warm up, take breaks, and don't play 12 hours straight without moving.
