How Long Will GTA 6 Take to Download? Times by Internet Speed

Estimated download times
Analysis. These are simple math, assuming you get your full line speed and nothing else is using the connection. Real downloads are usually slower.

Reported (Hyperoptic): on its 1 Gbps service (average 900 Mbps), a 150–200 GB download takes "around half an hour," and on the UK average of 100.8 Mbps, "up to four and a half hours." Reported (Wildanet, via the Lancashire Post): on a 10 Mbps copper line a 200 GB download "could stretch to almost 45 hours." Wildanet also notes "some estimates stretching to 600 GB," which we treat as an outlier.
Why the size isn't known yet
Confirmed: neither the PlayStation Store nor the Xbox listing shows a storage requirement yet.
Analysis: the 150–200 GB range comes from broadband companies' marketing estimates, not Rockstar. The real number should appear when preload opens. How to make the download faster
Analysis, plus tips from Hyperoptic's press release:
- Preload on November 12. That gives you a week. A slow line becomes a non-issue.
- Boxed copy? Redeem the code the day it arrives, since the physical version is available from November 12 too.
- Use Ethernet if you can, and pause other downloads and streaming while it runs.
- Leave the console in rest mode with downloads allowed, so it keeps going overnight.

How internet providers are reacting
Reported (Hyperoptic): UK provider Hyperoptic says it will pause all planned network maintenance on November 12, preload day, with only emergency work going ahead. It's also running a fibre promotion pitched around the game. Its press release lists a standard copy of GTA 6 at £69.99 in the UK.
Analysis: this is marketing, but it shows ISPs expect a real traffic spike. Preload day, not launch day, may be the bigger network event, because so many people will start downloading at once.

Preload early and the speed of your line won't matter much. The size is still unconfirmed, so treat every time estimate, including ours, as a rough guide.
