Current status

  • Current status: A self-reported firing, posted on TikTok on October 20, 2026, and picked up by Kotaku and Dexerto on October 21.
  • Last verified: October 22, 2026.
  • Sources checked: Kotaku, Dexerto, Fortune (for the beach deal context), posts on X.
  • What is confirmed: Vice City-branded beach furniture is out on Miami Beach as part of GTA 6's marketing.
  • What is not confirmed yet: the employer's side of the story, and the exact company he worked for.

What he said

Reported (Kotaku, quoting his TikTok of October 20):

"A few days ago, I posted a video where I was unboxing [these GTA 6] chairs on the beach. All the chairs, umbrellas, cabanas. I posted it; it had less than 1,000 views, and I was told to take them down."

He said people had already screenshotted and reposted it "all over Twitter, Instagram, TikTok," that the company "didn't like that," and that he was let go.

Reported (Kotaku, Dexerto): Simmon says he was new to the job and wasn't told he couldn't post. He also said it was "his fault," that he isn't blaming the company, and that he just thought it was a funny story.

The deal behind the chairs

Reported (Fortune): Miami Beach commissioners approved a deal worth up to $4 million in a 4–3 vote on September 10. It puts discreet Vice City branding on beach chairs and umbrellas from October 15 to December 31 (Fortune).

Reported (Dexerto): the furniture is run by the beach concessionaire Boucher Brothers, and GTAVI_Countdown reported security guards would watch the branded gear at night to stop theft.

Analysis: Dexerto's headline calls the chairs "ads worth $4 million." That figure is the value of the Miami Beach deal as a whole, not of the video, and not something Rockstar has confirmed. See our Vice Beach agreement guide.

Why this story spread

Analysis:

  • Rockstar's campaign depends on surprise reveals. A worker's pre-launch video took a little of that away, which is why companies in the chain care about it.
  • It's a reminder that every Miami stunt passes through local contractors: installers, concession staff, sign crews. Several early sightings, from the beach gear to the Biscayne Boulevard banner, came from people on the ground.
  • It's also a small cautionary tale for fans who work events or retail near launch: if you get early access to GTA 6 material through work, check what you're allowed to post.

The bottom line

A new worker says a small video cost him his job, and he isn't angry about it. The firing is his own account and hasn't been confirmed by the employer. The bigger, confirmed story is the Miami Beach branding deal itself.
