Current status

  • Current status: GTA VI applications are live and pending in the USPTO, many on their third or fourth six-month extension.
  • Last verified: October 22, 2026.
  • Sources checked: GTAVice.net's breakdown of the USPTO records, Trademarkia's public record pages.
  • What is confirmed: GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026, under the Grand Theft Auto VI name.
  • What is not confirmed yet: when the individual applications will register.

What Take-Two filed

Reported (GTAVice.net): four logo versions, each filed across four categories:

LogoCategories filed
Plain "VI"Games/digital media, printed materials, clothing, entertainment services
Plain "Grand Theft Auto VI"Same four (plus one duplicate printed-materials filing, abandoned 2024)
Palm-tree "VI"Same four
Palm-tree "Grand Theft Auto VI"Same four

That's 16 active applications, plus the abandoned duplicate. Reported (Trademarkia records): several, including 98298461 (apparel), received further extensions on October 6, 2026 (Trademarkia).

The 'abandoned' scare, explained

Reported (GTAVice.net):

  • 98298472 covers the palm-tree "Grand Theft Auto VI" logo for entertainment services, such as online games and websites.
  • It got a Notice of Allowance in March 2025. After that, Take-Two had to prove use or keep asking for six-month extensions.
  • On April 6, 2026, the USPTO marked it "ABANDONED – NO USE STATEMENT FILED."
  • Eight days later, Take-Two filed a Petition to Revive with a new extension. It was granted the same day.

Analysis: missed deadlines and revivals are common in big trademark portfolios. Take-Two never lost the GTA VI name. It has other live applications for the same logos.

Why they're still pending

Analysis, based on how US "intent to use" applications work, as GTAVice.net explains:

  • An allowed application only registers once the owner files a statement of use showing the mark in commerce for the listed goods or services.
  • Until GTA 6 is on sale, Take-Two has been filing extensions instead.
  • Clothing marks can be shown with merch, which is already on sale. See our Rockstar Store merch guide. Game-software marks are easiest to prove after launch.
  • Expect some applications to move to registered status in the months after November 19.

The bottom line

GTA VI's trademarks are safe, just unfinished. "Pending" and even a brief "abandoned" are normal steps before a product launches.

Frequently asked questions

Is GTA VI trademarked?
Take-Two has a set of US applications for the GTA VI logos, filed December 4, 2023. Most are still pending, which is normal before launch.
Did Take-Two lose the GTA VI trademark?
No. One application was marked abandoned for eight days in April 2026 after a missed filing, then revived.
Why aren't the GTA VI trademarks registered yet?
US intent-to-use applications need proof the mark is in use for the listed goods. Take-Two has been filing extensions until the game is on sale.
