Four announcements shaped everything else: the two trailers and the two delays. For the deeper story on the date changes specifically, see original vs new release date and the first release date history.

The two delays, briefly

Delay #1 (May 2, 2025): "2025" became May 26, 2026. Painful, but it came with a gift — Trailer 2 four days later, the most-watched game trailer reveal of its era.

Delay #2 (November 6, 2025): May became November 19, 2026, with Rockstar apologizing for "adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait" and pointing to polish. Notably, Rockstar has delayed publicly twice and no more — every rumor of a third delay since has proven false, and the launch machine (pre-orders, pre-load, retail allocations) is now fully in motion.

What's still to come before launch

The bottom line

From "well underway" in 2022 to a locked November 19, 2026 launch, GTA 6's official history is just eleven dated beats — everything else has been noise. Bookmark this timeline: we add each new Rockstar announcement as it happens, and the countdown tracks the only date that matters.
