The short version: if you want GTA 6 at launch, you need a PS5 or an Xbox Series console. Every other route is either a wait, a rumor, or a no.

The two confirmed platforms, compared

Both launch versions are identical in date, price ($79.99 / $99.99), editions, and content — no exclusive content or timing has been announced for either side. What differs is hardware:

  • PS5 family: base and Slim models, plus the PS5 Pro — the most powerful confirmed way to play, though Pro-specific enhancements aren't detailed yet.
  • Xbox Series family: the flagship Series X and the budget Series S, which gets the full game with performance targets still unannounced.

Choosing between them? The PS5 vs Xbox comparison weighs hardware, ecosystems, and reported pre-order momentum — or answer three questions in the platform checker tool.

The platforms that aren't happening (yet or ever)

PC — later, not never (Analysis). Rockstar launches console-first, PC after: GTA 5 took ~19 months, RDR2 ~13. Why PC is skipped at launch and when to expect it have their own pages. Note: you cannot pre-order a PC version, and any site selling "GTA 6 PC keys" is a scam.

PS4 / Xbox One — ruled out (Confirmed). GTA 6 targets current-gen SSDs and CPUs; there is no last-gen version and no cloud fallback announced for those consoles.

Switch 2 — rumor only. Leaker claims about a 2027 port exist; Rockstar has said nothing.

Subscriptions — no. GTA 6 is a full-price purchase; it is not launching on Game Pass or PS Plus.

The bottom line

Two platforms at launch — PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, November 19, 2026 — and everything else is a wait or a rumor. Buy for the console you already own; if you're buying new, the comparison guide settles it. This hub updates the moment any new platform becomes official.
