Xbox Series S: full support, open questions
Confirmed: the Series S gets the complete game on day one — same date, same editions, same content. Rockstar lists both Series consoles without caveats.
Not announced: performance specifics. Rockstar hasn't published resolution or frame-rate targets for any console, and the Series S — with less GPU power and a smaller SSD — is where those numbers matter most. Analysis: expect the Series S version to target lower resolution than Series X, as virtually every demanding cross-gen-free title does; and mind storage, because the install is expected to be one of the generation's largest. A 512GB Series S will likely need housekeeping before pre-load on November 12.
Xbox One and Game Pass: the two big No's
Xbox One (Confirmed): not supported. GTA 6 is built for current-gen hardware only — no Xbox One or Xbox One X version exists, and cloud streaming to last-gen consoles hasn't been announced either. Series S is the cheapest confirmed way into launch on Xbox.
Game Pass (Confirmed): not at launch. GTA 6 is a full-price purchase on Xbox. Rockstar and Take-Two have given no indication of a subscription debut — the economics of a projected record-breaking launch point the other way. Our full Game Pass explainer covers why, and what would have to change.
Xbox pre-orders, physical copies, and pre-load
Confirmed: pre-orders opened June 25, 2026 — $79.99 Standard / $99.99 Ultimate, Vintage Vice City Pack included for pre-orders before November 20. All the retailer options are in the pre-order guide.
Two Xbox-specific practicalities:
- Physical is code-in-a-box. The boxed Xbox edition contains a download code, not a playable disc — so physical vs digital is about shelf presence and gifting, not avoiding the download.
- Reported: early pre-order tallies show PS5 well ahead of Xbox in volume — which cuts both ways: Xbox physical stock has reportedly been easier to find than PS5 allocations. If you're platform-flexible, availability may end up the deciding factor.
Pre-load (Confirmed) starts November 12, 2026 on both Series consoles.
