How it aired
Confirmed. Rockstar announced the showcase on August 6. It premiered on Netflix August 27 at 3 p.m. ET, then hit YouTube and the GTA VI site at 9 p.m. ET. BBC News noted it came more than 18 months after the previous official look, with "no commentary or explanatory captions."
Reported: Sensor Tower estimates daily pre-orders on August 27 were more than five times the previous day's (LeonidaHub). That's a third-party estimate, not a Take-Two number.
What it showed
Highlights as reported by outlets that analyzed the footage (Reported):
- Two protagonists, switchable: you can swap between Jason and Lucia, including mid-chase, to drive or shoot (WIRED).
- Body changes: eating too much or too little affects weight, and working out builds muscle (WIRED).
- Activities: bench press, basketball, scuba diving, jet skiing, kayaking, racing and skydiving (Consequence).
- Combat: swapping between two weapons on the fly without a weapon wheel (Engadget), and what looks like slow-motion aiming (Consequence).
- Carjacking: a "Slim Jim" minigame at 06:07 using a right-stick-timed input (Engadget). Details: how car theft works.
- World detail: dense interiors and a wide range of NPC body types (BBC).
Rockstar's IGN preview the same day explained the new wanted system in depth.
What it didn't show
- GTA 6 Online: nothing. Rockstar calls the game a single-player experience at launch (BBC). Background: GTA 6 Online at launch?
- PC: console-only footage. The PC version is still unannounced.
- Frame rate: the video is mastered at 30fps. Rockstar's Rob Nelson later told Flow Games consoles run at 30fps, per GamesRadar.
- Xbox Series S: not shown, per Digital Foundry.
