2022 GTA 6 Hacker Arion Kurtaj Faces Trial on November 9: What's Known

On this page
Current status
- Current status: Trial reportedly scheduled for November 9, 2026.
- Last verified: October 19, 2026.
- Sources checked: Game Rant, GTAVice, Notebookcheck, Rockstar Report, the 2025 Court of Appeal judgment (National Archives).
- What is confirmed (court records): the 2025 Court of Appeal ruling.
- What is not confirmed yet: the exact charges at the new trial, how long it will last, and any outcome. The November 9 date comes from barristers' chambers via news reports, not a court listing we could check.
What happened in 2022–2025
| Year | Event | Status |
|---|---|---|
| 2022 | About 90 videos of early GTA 6 footage leak after a breach of Rockstar's systems. Rockstar confirms an intrusion | Confirmed (Rockstar statement at the time, via Game Rant) |
| 2023 | Kurtaj found unfit to plead. Jury finds he committed the acts in 12 offences. Indefinite hospital order | Reported (Game Rant, Notebookcheck) |
| 2025 | Court of Appeal says evidence about six earlier hacking offences shouldn't have been admitted, but leaves the jury's findings in place | Confirmed (judgment) |
| 2026 | Assessed fit to plead. Trial listed for Nov 9 at Woolwich Crown Court | Reported (Red Lion Chambers via Game Rant) |
The "fit to plead" change matters because in 2023 the jury only decided whether he did the acts, not whether he was criminally guilty in the usual way (Reported, Game Rant).
Not the same as Cyberleek
Reported: Game Rant notes that this year's leaks come from an unrelated source called Cyberleek, which has no known connection to Kurtaj or the 2022 attack. Both are covered on our Cyberleek page and leak timeline. We never link to leaked videos, builds or code.
Language note: Kurtaj hasn't been convicted in the ordinary sense. Use "alleged" for any new charges until a verdict.
Does it matter for GTA 6?
Analysis: not for the game. Rockstar said in 2022 that the breach wasn't expected to have a long-term effect on development, and Game Rant finds no public evidence that it derailed GTA 6. The trial's timing (GTAVice, Notebookcheck) is a coincidence of court scheduling. It's the same day as Take-Two's earnings. See our final-month calendar.

The bottom line
The 2022 GTA 6 hack case returns to court on November 9, ten days before launch, now that Kurtaj has been found fit to plead. It's a legal story, not a release risk. We'll update this page with the outcome.
