Current status

  • Current status: Confirmed by Rockstar.
  • Last verified: June 30, 2026.
  • Official sources checked: Rockstar / Take-Two editions details.
  • What is confirmed: a standalone Ultimate Edition Upgrade exists and can be bought at any time by Standard owners.
  • What is not confirmed yet: the exact price of the standalone upgrade.

What the Ultimate upgrade includes

The upgrade unlocks everything the Ultimate Edition adds over Standard:

Ultimate extraDetails
Exclusive vehicles5 vehicles
Weapon variants4 variants
Cosmetic packsMultiple
Exclusive shops5 (Rideout Customs, Sara's Unisex Salon, Stock 305, Electric Fang Tattoo, One-Eyed Willie's)
GarageA dedicated garage
Side mission1 exclusive mission
GTA+A free month

None of it changes the core story or gives a gameplay advantage — it's bonus content. See the full Standard vs Ultimate breakdown.

How upgrading works

Confirmed: buy the Standard Edition now (and still get the Vintage Vice City Pack if you pre-order), then purchase the Ultimate Edition Upgrade from the PS5 or Xbox store whenever you like. Your progress and saves carry over — you're adding content, not restarting.

Confirmed vs not confirmed

Officially confirmed: the upgrade exists and is available to Standard owners at any time.

Not confirmed: the price of the standalone upgrade. The edition gap is $20 ($79.99 → $99.99), so a similar upgrade price is a reasonable expectation — but treat any exact figure as analysis, not official, until Rockstar lists it.

Should you buy Standard and upgrade later?

Best answer for most players: if you're not sure you want the extras, buy Standard and upgrade later — you lose nothing, you still get the pre-order pack, and you can decide once you've played. Only buy Ultimate up front if you already know you want the bonus content and the free GTA+ month from day one. For the pure cost angle, see our GTA 6 price guide.

Sources checked

  • Rockstar / Take-Two editions details — confirm Standard owners can buy the Ultimate Edition Upgrade separately at any time, and list the Ultimate's exclusive content.
  • Established gaming outlets (PC Gamer, TechRadar, GameSpot) — corroborate the upgrade option and the Ultimate's contents.

Frequently asked questions

Can I upgrade GTA 6 to Ultimate later?
Yes. Rockstar confirmed Standard Edition owners can buy the Ultimate Edition Upgrade separately at any time.
Will I lose progress if I upgrade to Ultimate?
No. The upgrade adds content on top of your existing game — your saves and progress carry over.
How much is the GTA 6 Ultimate upgrade?
Rockstar hasn't confirmed the standalone upgrade price yet. The edition gap is $20, so expect something in that range.
Do I keep the pre-order bonus if I buy Standard?
Yes. The Vintage Vice City Pack comes with both editions when you pre-order, including Standard.
Is it cheaper to buy Ultimate or upgrade later?
Until the upgrade price is confirmed, it's unclear. If you know you want the extras now, the $99.99 Ultimate is the simplest route.
