  • Sources checked: LeonidaHub on Sensor Tower (Oct 13); Sensor Tower GTA VI tracker.
  • What is confirmed: nothing from Take-Two. It hasn't shared pre-order numbers.

The numbers

Reported (Sensor Tower estimates via LeonidaHub):

PlatformUnitsRevenue
PlayStation Store4.51 million$441 million
Xbox Store1.57 million$153 million
Total6.08 million$594 million

PlayStation's share is about 74%, down from 77% earlier. Earlier snapshots, per the same report: about 4.08 million by July 20, about 4.38 million by mid-August, and about 4.86 million after the Extended Look (reported via TechPowerUp). Sensor Tower changed its model on October 5, so compare trends with care.

How it compares

Reported (Sensor Tower comparisons via LeonidaHub): GTA 5 had about 7 million pre-orders. Cyberpunk 2077 had about 8 million and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 about 6.5 million. GTA 6 still has five weeks of pre-orders left.

Reported (secondhand): Sensor Tower data cited by GamesIndustry.biz suggests about 89% of pre-orders are for the Ultimate Edition. We couldn't read the original, so treat it as unverified. Edition differences: Standard vs Ultimate.

Why these are estimates

Analysis:

  • Digital only: physical pre-orders at retailers like GameStop and Walmart aren't counted.
  • Modeled: Sensor Tower estimates from store data and panels, net of returns. These aren't official sales.
  • Take-Two's view: the company has called pre-orders "exceptional" without numbers (Reported, via LeonidaHub). Its November 9 earnings call is the next chance for detail (earnings explainer).
